The perfect storm in 1984 was that every ranked team had 2 losses or more except

...for Florida with 1 loss and 1 tie and on probation (ineligible to be ranked in the UPI) and Washington with 1 loss (not even PAC 10 champion) and BYU with 13 wins and 0 losses.

They would have had to rank a two loss team or Washington above undefeated BYU to deny us
