The SEC just ensured that it will have the most at large playoff spots. I think the SEC in effect whittled the at large playoff slots to 3 or 4. I can see a 3 loss SEC team in the playoff with the BIG 10 and then maybe an occasional Pac 12/ACC team getting the at larges most years.
BYU will never get an at large now without significant help from games they can't control.
But there still are conference championship slots. I think a conference champion slot will keep the Big 12 together and have them add teams like BYU and UCF.
I don't think the Big 10 expands to a super conference because as the next big conference they can still get 2 or so slots in the playoff. Were the playoff slots to diminish, I think it would push them to add ND, Clemson, and Oregon.
Just 2 cents.
