having everyone tell him how good he is. He likely hit the genetic lottery and was shaving at 12. He's always been bigger and faster than his peers. In 7th grade, he was the QB or the RB on his team. He had to make lots of game decisions and rarely sat out. He got better while the late bloomers watched. Now as a high-ranking junior or senior, he has high-level college coaches tell him he is special. Ranking systems value offers, so he climbs in stars based on the number of offers he receives. These players play with a confidence and moxey that they really are special players. More offers come in as their hard work is rewarded. It's easy to work hard when you are rewarded.
So stars matter, but they are also self-fulfilling prophecies. I think Bronco went a little overboard, but I appreciated his desire to find the late bloomer who has a chip on his shoulder and who only wanted a fair chance to compete with those higher-rated players who hit puberty first.
