Fans are the most unique kind of customer to a team, but we are customers nonetheless. As a customer, I expect BYU to do what it takes within an ethical framework to be highly successful. I'm not just buying this narrative, but there have been enough reports of the BOT not being all in. Meaning, they are not willing to enter the arms race.
I can see the argument from the Church's perspective not to do this, but if this causes us to lose coaches we could have retained and not compete consistently at a high level, I will still be a fan, but I won't be a good investment for BYU. I won't keep season tickets, I won't watch every game.
Allowing for an apathetic fanbase is not how to build a brand and make BYU a cause that people notice and support. So, I guess we wait and see and hope there is nothing to this.
