Or give out a huge child tax credit from the government?
The thing that people forget is that this example is kind of a worst case scenario. Lousy paying jobs, small kids that require a lot of day care costs. In 5 years, the family budget looks dramatically different and significantly improved.
It also doesn't consider immediate options that could significantly benefit their situation, like both parents donating plasma - $750-$800 per month (is that tax free earnings?)

Naw, I got my son's Hyundai for 8k just recently, under 100k miles. This family could cut a lot more.
