Just because there is a damages clause doesn't mean it's not wrong to
not uphold your end of the bargain.
I don't know what all the provisions of the contract said, so I can't opine too strongly on this particular contract,
but I disagree with the premise that if a contract includes a damages clause then there's nothing ever wrong with terminating it.

It's not "plain wrong". Contracts have buyouts. If you pay the buyout, you fulfill the contract. That's not plain wrong
