Then the simple solution is to negotiate the terms you feel you need into the
agreement. If $2M isn’t adequate compensation to exit the agreement, then negotiate a higher amount or don’t do the deal.
You can’t be mad because one party want to abide by the actual agreement that you agreed to because later you feel disadvantaged in some way shape or form. That is what the negotiations process is all about. It is super whiny to layer complain about fairness when the agreement was followed and a provision of that agreement, which is as operable as any other provision in the agreement, was utilized.

It's not "plain wrong". Contracts have buyouts. If you pay the buyout, you fulfill the contract. That's not plain wrong
