RE: What's Funny?
I never claimed that the report was accurate. Most universities are out of control liberal, but that is not the issue, telling professors what they can teach and punishing them for teaching something that conflicts with church doctrine is violating academic freedom. Censoring student speech is also a non-issue, university administrations for the most part don't care if the professors allow their students to express a viewpoint at all. They are concerned with a professor's freedom to teach without fear of censorship or repercussions.

Let's say professor LEDSFW taught a class on climate science at the University of Utah and he taught that humans have zero effect on the current climate. If the U of U told him that he could not teach that, denied him tenure, and threatened to fire him, that would be academic censorship and would be a violation of the 1940 Statement of Principles on Academic freedom and Tenure. It would likely result in a 68 page report by the AAUP, and if they let LEDSFW write a rebuttal the report would balloon to 9,876 pages. That would have nothing to do with religion and may have resulted in the U of U being left out of the PAC. That is not a very good example because he would never be in a position to teach, universities are pretty good at eliminating pseudo-science claptrap, like ESP, telekinesis, creationism and climate change deniers. I don't think anyone who knows me would call me a liberal. I am a scientist and I trust the scientific method, if a claim is made I will look at the published science on the subject and make judgment based on the facts. The facts overwhelming support the hypothesis that human activity is having an impact on our climate.

As far as the PAC10 presidents' preconceived notion of the Mormon Church goes, I have no idea what their notion is or was, and neither do you. I do see plenty of reasons, that have nothing to do with religion, that make BYU a bad fit with the PAC. Expansion isn't about athletic prowess, it is all about money. The PAC got everything in Utah that BYU could deliver, the 32nd largest TV market. You can say "but we have 12 million members world-wide" and the TV execs will say "there are 77 million Catholics in the US and Notre Dame has never had TV numbers that pulled closed to a quarter of them." Oh and BYU is no Notre Dame. It is time to let go of the persecution complex, the world is not out to get the Mormon Church. Heck, I really dislike cougarboard's rules I never say "heck", a member of the Mormon Church was almost President of US. If he hadn't been such a namby-pamby, and changed his position as often as most people change their socks he would have been. He didn't get elected, not because he was a member of the LDS faith, he didn't get elected because he was a week candidate.
