I am not one wanting Bronco's head, but beleive it would be good to change
coaches just to show these guys that it really doesn't matter who is coaching at BYU, they will all face the same challenges and achieve similar results. It is what it is. There is no magic formula for success at BYU. Today's environment is vastly different than it was when Lavell was coaching. I know several guys who played for Lavell. They all say that under todays scrutiny, half the team would have been suspended. You had guys writing their own prescriptions, dudes getting drunk on weekends, sleepovers with girls, etc. None of that can get swept under the rug today.

The money in the football scene is concentrated even more so in the hands of a few. That creates an environment where the have-nots cannot compete from a recruiting, facility, and schedule standpoint. BYU's already small recruiting pool is now microscopic. BYU cannot and will not, in the foreseeable future, land a high percentage of elite LDS talent. The elite talent will go to the elite conferences.

BYU has a difficult time just staying equal in recruiting with BSU, USU, and other Mountain West schools because of the honor code. When you compare the pool of players available to those schools to what is available to BYU, there is a big difference there. Sadly, those schools are recruiting many of the kids BYU is after. BYU won't win 100% of those either.

Such is the reality of todays landscape for BYU. I am fine with it. Many on here won't be. They seem to believe that "greatness" is just around the corner. BYU won't achieve greatness in today's environment as it currently is. To achieve greatness they need to land the elite LDS and elite non-LDS kids, who will thrive under the honor code. To do this BYU needs to be in a P5 conference. Until that comes to fruition, and it isn't happening anytime soon, BYU will just be what they are now. Just a decent team that at times is fun to watch.
