Regarding your first paragraph: You don't see any distinction between
professions that are strictly necessary for a society (police, fire, health care, etc.) and a profession that provides entertainment? It seems peevish to me to be so irritated at someone who might make that distinction themselves.

Regarding the rest of your rant, it seems that you don't quite appreciate some of the difficulties of upholding a standard while working in a college framework that holds different standards. It seems like you are are either for a fundamentalist approach (Discontinue anything that might break the Sabbath in any way, regardless of consequences) or a surrender approach (disregard the Sabbath altogether).

BYU is going to continue to compete in national athletics which is going to require some things that dumb yewts might call "hypocritical" while also trying to maintain the sanctity and purpose of the Sabbath as much as possible. Along the way there are obviously going to be a lot of things that people won't like.
