There could be lots of reasons. My first gut though is just as a counteragenda
to the attacks from the other side -- SJWs say that men are horrible rapists; that universities need to have these protective policies, etc... The response is to say that false allegations are rampant, which counters the argument that men are horrible rapists and that universities need to have protective policies.
Both are probably exaggerating their claims. But this is how americans talk to each other now, unfortunately. whatever the other tribe says, my tribe has to vigorously say the opposite.
