Didn't read all entries, but best result was go home and come back in 6+ months
with family. Missionary enjoyed it more because he/she could dress normal and act normal. Families had a blast because they were not limited to missionary limitations. Missionaries could check up on converts and show that they had remained strong after their missions. Huge LDS families drew attention wherever they went because they were happy, unified, and had a person who spoke the language with them.
When missionaries were picked up at the end of the their missions they were instructed to maintain mission rules. Obviously they had to dress as a missionary and have a companion with them at all times. Not as fun as coming back later.

I can tell you that it is up to the MP. The church discourages it because their missions aren't over
