What about open houses? Also "strongly discouraged" but everyone still has them
and I am continually amazed at how President Hinckley spoke out about that but it wasn't even a blip on a lot of people's radar. It has since been added to the HOI as well as a practice members should avoid except for family gatherings. I think most people just figure "but I love all my friends so much they're like family" and hence a Chuck-a-Rama sized buffet is served to 200 people.

I can tell you that it is up to the MP. The church discourages it because their missions aren't over
