Hmmm,
some pretty solid teams each year or recently who pull in just a few 4 stars if that, and tons of 3 stars... Utah, TCU, Wisconsin, Louisville, AZ, Iowa, OKST, Baylor, Mizzou, etc. Michigan State was on this list for a while, Mississippi State. etc.

And the teams who got to where they are get those recruits now because of what they did back when they were on this list. Now maybe we need to be on the same page here, because I don't want to hear any "well we're not going to be Bama with this..." To make an improvement, to see some better results on the field, to be able to compete well with better schedules, the depth needs to improve. That doesn't mean 5 more 4 stars have to be brought in every season. It means if a dude goes down, or backups just get PT, it needs to be better quality guys. More top 100 at their position 3 star type guys. More guys with a higher athletic ceiling. Fewer walkons. Etc.

The BIG difference in recruiting will be where you see 16-20 next to the 3 star category. Not "Three 4 stars, twelve 3 stars, and ten 2 stars or NR."

And what I said about winning first with what you have is important. I'm not even saying it's an end. It is a means to an end. Because BYU isn't landing more of the top tier LDS kids until they do so first (winning), just like everyone else who had to earn it. And that winning can start happening with better recruiting in the bottom 2/3 of the class. Which has slowly been happening the last 3 classes. But needs to happen more. You start there. That is improvement. You don't jump from one spot up two. You move from one to the next and this is the next step... You succeed with that step and the top talent starts coming.
