Help me understand why multiple losses to P5s is better than
a Conference Championship in a G5 conference?

Clearly BYU wouldn't win a conference championship every season, no illusions there, but is it REALLY that bad to head back to a conference?

My two main points are:

1) Winning. Winning solves NEARLY every problem. Recruiting, donations, casual fan appeal, filling the stadium, national media exposure, etc. BYU needs to get back into the business of winning games and winning LOTS of them. We just can't win with our Indy schedule.

2) Having a schedule with a purpose. Right now we are all pretty defeated with this season, and it is a drain because it happens every. single. year. We have nothing to play for midway through September. Even if we played Utah and LSU/Wisconsin and lost to them in OOC play, we still have a conference schedule to play and the chance of winning a conference championship. This gives purpose to the schedule and helps to keep the team focused through the end of the year. This is a yearly goal that the team can set and shoot for.

BYU needs to accept what it (currently) is. If we aren't willing to pony up the cash as a mid to lower P5 school on facilities and coaching salaries, then we need to get back into a G5 conference and start winning again.

(Another assumption I am making is that if we move to a G5 conference then we will be able to keep some (if not all) of our ESPN deal. I can't imagine a conference wouldn't want more exposure to ESPN through our partnership, although the financials may be the sticking point.)
