Before, they were inventing and creating the fun. Now, this stinks of administration telling them how to have fun. Big difference.
This wasn't around while I was a student at BYU, but having remained in academia as a professor I have some understanding of how students feel and think. You are taking away their freedom. Some may even interpret this as an extension of the Honor Code's dictatorship. Having worked at Student Leadership at BYU as a student, I felt we tended to put too much bureaucracy on many things; over complicated many processes, actually.
You probably are already aware of many of these feelings as well as others I haven't brought up. I am not saying I disagree with the decision. Students need to focus on study and work primarily; however, the college experience also should be a large part of their time as a student and that includes creative avenues outside of administration.
