...in order to force someone out. That's what you do if you're a lousy employer, and you risk a lawsuit. What reasonable employers do is a buyout, an offer of early retirement, or a severance package. I think they're trying to get him to quit so they don't have to do something like that. Or, they're trying to create a false trail of incompetence and problems so they can fire him.
