This is why at 65 the employee needs to be proactive in his or her discussions
with management. You can't expect that your employers aren't thinking about your age and plans every year when you are well into your 60's. There could be a bit of age discrimination on the part of the company, but I can understand that to a point. Sometimes a company needs a youth movement. We don't have the company's side of things in this discussion, only your FIL's. But again, maybe they HAVE found some things slipping in his workplace skills and would rather "force" him out then having to terminate him and risk an discrimination lawsuit. It's not easy being an employer these days, that's why everybody is outsourcing.
