I hate to be the "fatherly" type, but you ought to consider the role of Karma
Life has a way of smoothing off those harsh edges on our character. If you don't do it on your own, a loving FIH will give you the lessons you need. I'm not hoping for bad things to come your way. Quite the opposite. But I think you should consider the role of both appreciation for a long career of contribution and invaluable experience, along with a bit of compassion. You never know when you'll find yourself in a similar role.

A car wreck, an unexpected aneurysm (like the BYU student son of a friend), choking on food. You never know at what age you or your family will become dependent on the compassion and understanding of others. Rest assured, it comes to everyone at some point.
