My sure to be controversial take is that the church may eventually move into the
mainstream on LGBTQ issues. We've already come quite a long way in a very short period of time with respect to these issues, and I think we'll keep changing. I'm sure most will not agree, but I wouldn't be surprised to see gay temple marriages some day.

Obviously I could be wrong, but I think Mormons of all eras tend to view the policies and practices of the church during their particular eras as eternal and definitive. Polygamy used to be a central and defining feature of the faith--now it's downplayed to the point that it's barely mentioned. The WoW used to be interpreted and enforced very differently. People used to firmly believe that blacks would never hold the priesthood. Etc. Etc. Etc. If we look at our own history, we should know that the church is in a constant state of change, which makes me believe the LGBTQ issue may not be the eternal hurdle many think it will be.

Of course, other issues not even on anyone's radar at the moment may eventually keep us out, and football may not even exist in 50 years, but I think it's presumptuous to think that we can predict with any certainty how the LGBTQ issue will play out for us in the long term.
