Because it is all voluntary. Everyone in the church is there of their own free will, so certainly there are those who have authority over the functions and ordinances of the church but they don’t really have any authority over individuals that those individuals don’t willingly allow them to have. Russel M. Nelson could give people orders until he’s blue in the face and none of them ever have to do any of it if they don’t want to and there’d never be any repercussions for not doing what he told them to do.

Unless of course it’s true.

If it is true, and this structure is God’s will, then these people are wrong and there will be repercussions although not any by the church and not any by president Nelson.

And this is where the entire “authority” gripe falls apart. The only real authority is what each of us, men or women, is willing to agree to.
