The Huge factor that people on this board seem to be ignorant on is Alcohol.

Maybe it’s a Utah bubble thing, or maybe people don’t understand because of their lifestyle, but it’s all about alcohol at other stadiums.

College students’ lives revolve around alcohol and partying at most schools. So do a lot of adults (the reason why there are hundreds of bars in big cities). If you include alcohol most fans will show up no matter the opponent or how well their teams are doing. It’s a social event they can drink at with their friends. It doesn’t matter if the team is good if we all get drunk and have fun. The game is just a bonus. That’s why sports bars exhist. It’s not for the crappy bar food lol.

I knew a lot of students that would go to tailgate parties just to drink and party, and then they would go home once the game started because they didn’t have tickets. In general it’s easy for people to show up to an event if it involves drinking.

It’s why restaurants have happy hours. Alcohol drives traffic in restaurants.

I’m not saying we need to all start drinking or that LES needs to sell alcohol. But no matter how big or luxurious we make LES the fans that come are coming purely for football and nothing else. That’s ok, but it magnifies the importance of how good the team is. If the football sucks, we don’t come, because that’s the only reason why we are there, no drinking after to forget about the dumpster fire performances.

I love BYU and I love LES. Best college football setting in the nation. But it’s never going to be SEC level experices for this reason. And that’s ok with me. Go Cougs!
