Yes. I saw the Wisconsin game. Aleva Hifo is a good receiver. I'm not disputing that. He had 28 receptions, for 358 yards, giving him an average of 12.8 yards per catch.
Britain Covey had 60 receptions, for 637 yards, averaging 10.6 yards per catch. So yeah, Hifo averaged 2.2 more yards per catch. Great!
Covey had twice as many catches- often at crucial times. He also threw several touchdowns last year. He is also an elusive runner.
As for intelligence- Covey is a very smart football player. He doesn't do stupid things. A good example of that would be vs. BYU last year. Utah had dialed up a trick play, in which he would be given the ball, behind the line of scrimmage, and would then throw the ball downfield. But the play broke down. BYU wasn't fooled, and nobody was open. A lot of players might've tried to force it anyway- or thrown the ball away. Covey tucked the ball, and rather than throwing a pick- got a first down. He's always been smart, and very instinctive. Go back to his freshman year- he was a star in Week 1. Very few dumb freshman mistakes!
I'm not basing "any insight on what announcers say". I'm saying Britain Covey is a much bigger star, and is more recognized- on the national landscape- as a junior, than Aleva Hifo is- as a Senior.
Covey is better.
