You do realize that having a conference championship allows you to play one more
game against a ranked opponent, thus strenthening your schedule? Every year the MW conference championship game consists of 2 ranked teams battling it out. Last year the MW finished the season with 3 ranked teams. Sure they may not be P5 teams, but playing in the MW can give BYU the opportunity to play 2-4 ranked teams every year depending on the season. The last 4-5 seasons BYU would have been lucky to finish 4th or 5th place in the MW.
