but if we're picking an at-large NY6 team (which is the pool BYU would be in), and it comes down to an 11-1 BYU team that beat no teams in the top 25 (my hypothetical scenario, and a possible scenario for sure) and a 10-2 SEC team that beat multiple Top 25 teams but didn't make the SEC title game, I think I'm going to say odds are the SEC team is a better team from a mathematical viewpoint.
There are only so many slots for NY6 teams. I think it's reasonable to think that an 11-1 BYU team isn't a lock for the NY6 unless some of those 11 teams (and the 1 loss) end the season ranked in the top 25. Hopefully some of those teams finish strong.
