The church has tons of business that are solely owned to generate profit. Vast amounts of land holdings, farms, insurance companies, stock holdings, radio stations (many outside of Utah that have nothing to do with helping to publish church content), commercial real estate, etc.
So yeah, using the mall as an example of why the church should donate money to a non-profit cause is a bad example. A better example would be when the church donated 3 million dollars to the U's law school.
