BYU created a no win situation by throwing long. This is the first self issue.
Debating whether a flag should be thrown is the secondary. Debating this makes us look dumb because we shouldn’t have thrown it in the first place. Now we are complaining up by 40.

Technically maybe he should have thrown it. Sure that’s a reasonable stance.

It is also reasonable to think they should hold it given the game situation.

Situational calling happens all the time with all sports. I’m sure in fact refs are coached by the governing bodies to do this. I also believe they are trained as well to changing calling sensitivities due to game circumstances.

TV audiences don’t like seeing a lot of flags when the game is out of reach. I’m sure they are sensitive to this.

I personally like that they didn’t throw it as to not highlight BYU’s unsportsmanlike like decision to throw long up big. In my own opinion.

I’m pretty sure that was what Kalani and coach were talking about at lengthy at mid field. It wasn’t just the fake punt.

If they had just run then dang ball this is all avoidable.

Like it or not there are unwritten rules in most all sports that you can argue make no sense. Baseball has a ton of them.
