Medical students will ask questions, they'll be attentive, they're curious and engaging.
NP students sit in the corner like a fly on the wall and disappear after a few minutes. Their clinical "training" is a joke. I remember as an intern, the nurses who were almost ready to graduate from NP school and had 3-4 years of MICU experience would offer suggestions on what to do next for patients. I was totally lost the first week (somehow escaped ICU in medical school) but by the second week, I could tell they didn't have much of a clinical compass except for following strict algorithms.
The majority of PAs I have worked with are far more competent, but I still wouldn't trust them to do much without oversight. I'm quite scared for the future of medicine in Utah with independently practicing PAs. Why would IHC ever hire another doctor again? Just have your PAs train PAs and pay them 1/3 the salary. Your outcomes will drop, but patients won't really know any different. They can even call themselves "Doctor" after they get their doctorate of medical science.
