When my fourth baby was born 15 years ago in Las Vegas we got hit with a similar
Situation.
I had checked the make sure the hospital and OB were in our insurance network.
The baby wound up in the NICU and come to find out the NICU pediatricians were not in our network. They billed us $8k and our insurance paid zero. I would up all settling for half. What a scam

Also it would be illegal to check insurance at the door and redirect people to other ERs. Huge EMTALA violation.
