They had an obligation to provide details of the situation and chose not to.
The physician group could've let me and my wife know at any point what was going on. They chose to wait for months before they sent a billing statement to us, and inform us that we owed them anything. I have ZERO sympathy for a physician group in that situation, when their first contact with me is saying that I'm in pre-collections. That's on them, not me. If you want to take offense to that and say I cheated them, so be it, but they were 100% in the wrong for waiting so long to try and collect anything from me, and then make threats to me and my wife over the situation. In my view at that point, the physician group tried to cheat me and my wife, and tried to take advantage of us in an emergency situation.

They may be trying to collect fair payment, but to wait months before informing the patient of the situation and then immediately trying to strongarm them is bullyish.
