Just to clarify the ER doc also doesn’t know what insurance you have
But you’re right, it would be nice if the triage nurse checking you in gave you the heads up…
Though I’m sure they don’t care, don’t know insurance contracts or just dont want to deal with the subsequent discussion/anger each and every time.
But no question the whole thing is a mess and the patient suffers because of it.

Also it would be illegal to check insurance at the door and redirect people to other ERs. Huge EMTALA violation.
