You underestimate how terrible a draw San Diego St is
Here are the 5 biggest SDSU games over the last 4 years

1. 2017 Bowl Game vs Army (3.485M - legitimately impressive)
2. 2018 Bowl Game vs Ohio (1.447M - not great, not bad)
3. 2020 vs Nevada on CBS (.859M)
4. 2019 Bowl Game vs Central Michigan (0.802M - a bit weak for a bowl)
5. 2020 vs BYU (.606M)

By comparison, that BYU/SDSU was BYU's 9th highest draw on just that year
(1. UCF, 2. CCU, 3. Houston, 4. Navy, 5. Troy, 6. W. Kentucky, 7. Texas St, 8. Boise St)

Honestly, SDSU (like UNLV) is a sleeping giant with lots of potential, but if you're the Big 12 right now, you're not going for potential.

UNLV is just as bad - their biggest draw in the last 4 years was 525k against BYU in 2017....which is BYU's 31st biggest game over the same time period.

Boise St has at least shown the ability to draw an audience on occasion, even if they don't always do so.
