I think what you say is largely true and will eventually happen.
But I think the timeline is debatable. The fact that so many large companies have come out as woke indicates a further alignment with universities in my opinion. Also, there is still a lack of good online programs for some of the most technical areas. Take data science for example. There are lots of online camps/courses for this. But from what I've been seeing/hearing graduates of these programs have a hard time measuring up to students with an MS, for example, in this area where they've spent more time going deeper. Usually the more successful ones are those who already had a technical degree.

So I think a decoupling from university degrees, if it does happen, is a long ways away.

You're also forgetting that even the B12 schools are run by academics who do think about things like academic prestige. But in the end money is what talks the most. So if the money difference is big enough, then you won't see B12 schools jumping. But if it's really close moneywise, I could see it happening.
