To actually answer your question, "How many in football?":
ALL-TIME FOOTBALL NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

Ivy League – 46
Big Ten – 39
SEC – 30
ACC – 18
Independents – 17
Pac-12 – 15
Big 12 – 11

I imagine there are numbers out there for the 'Modern Era'. But, there doesn't seem to be much agreement on what the definition of Modern Era means. Since WWII? Since the inception of the Coaches Poll in 1950? Since the wide-spread adoption of the forward pass in the 70's? With the inception of the BCS in 1998?

Obviously the PAC8/10/12 doesn't show too strongly in football, especially since 1998. That's all SEC. Last shared P12 championship was USC in 2004 (if only counting the AP & Coaches polls. If considering all polls it was actually Utah in 2008, then USC in 2007, USC 2004, USC 2003, USC 2002). So, the Conference of Football Champions, they are NOT.
