...into those depths that the OP was alluding to. iirc 4 of the guys who were charged with the gang rape were defensive players and he was the defensive coordinator. That was a major fail on his part and something he has accountability for.
Also it was his crappy 3-3-5 defenses that were giving up big plays and lots of points. In 2003 they gave up 26 pts a game and in 2004 they gave up 27 pts a game. He played a big role in the condition that the team was in during that period. He wasn't an innocent bystander
