Not likely. The BYU-Notre Dame game was announced last fall, about 3 weeks after
BYU accepted the Big 12's invitation. Since then, BYU has axed schools from future schedules like crazy. What P5 team even had openings and would have been willing to schedule BYU on short notice for the 2022 schedule? When would the return game be scheduled?
The BYU-Notre Dame game in Vegas is better than any game TH could have scheduled for '22 under the circumstances. And, no, he could not schedule Notre Dame in Provo, because Notre Dame would have just paid us the $1M buyout permitted in the contract to cancel the game.

Notre Dame was either going to pay the buyout or do this. BYU took the better option. They were not coming to Provo.

BYU didn't "need" Notre Dame for 2022. They could have just as easily found someone else and the rest of the schedule

Of course. It's ridiculous what we did to get that extra game. Should have just forced them to pay us.
