My son in eighth grade is 1 of 2 kids in his math class that don't have a phone.
The teacher gives extra credit every day to kids who will put their phone in a cubby at the beginning of class and leave it there all class. He and this other kid get the free credit every day anyway, so that's nice.
Also, this past Saturday, it was my son and this same other kid that represented their school at the state math competition.
