If anything, it was THAT discussion that ended everything at the time. BYU had made a multi-year commitment to the WCC. The BIG-XII did not have the votes to alter the Bylaws to allow a FB Only member, nore was there an incentive financially to make that concession at the time. So parties agreed to mutually end discussions because BYU was not in an ethical position to bail on the WCC and the BIG-XII was not in a good position to bring everyone to vote in an open Bylaw Amendment Convention that might have seen the balance of the then very shaky conference fall apart completely.

I wish some of you guys would not just regurgitate some facts, but get ALL the facts straight. The FB Only conversation probably lasted 20 seconds....

"What do you think of a FB Only membership?"

"Our Bylaws forbid that, you have to bring your programs over from the WCC."

"We just cannot do that in good conscience."

"We understand your reasons for not wanting to break that commitment at this time."

"Thank you!"

Seriously folks, that little bit of information is huge awqnd you gloss right over those facts like the BIG-XII were being difficult or harsh. They weren't. From what the media knows, it was entirely about the Bylaws and not much else at the time. Get over it. This whole thing isn't over and I tend to think like Brian Logan. Win and nothing else matters!

Nobody in the media really believes that the bottom 2/3rds of P-5 Teams are "better" than BYU. BYU needs to play like it reaches the end zone...looking like it knew it would get there all along. It's the whiny princess fans that are making BYU look bad. Who sees Houston, UNLV or SDSU fans peeing in their panties over this? I don't. Those programs will take the attitude so what! We should just win and shame the critics. That DID work for the AFL vs the NFL after only a decade.
