People forget that LaVell, as good as he was, did it against horrible schedules. Horrible. Not mediocre, actually really really bad.
We have significantly upgraded our schedules without significantly upgrading our talent. Yet we expect things that we had a hard time delivering against really bad schedules.
Why do you think Chris Peterson couldn't do at Boise what he used to be able to do there? Why do you think he left? Even the MWC schedule was too hard for him to consistently beat up on it like he did in the old WAC.
The savior of BYU football doesn't exist in the form of a coach. It exists, if at all, in the form of consistently weak scheduling like we had in our glory years or upgraded talent that we are unlikely to be able to deliver as long as there is an honor code.
