I'm about where your dad is.
I've lost my taste for college football altogether (not just BYU football). I used to love the college game because it was pure. It was about true student athletes playing for the love of the sport. It was about representing your alma mater and your community. It was about fair play, inclusion (any school could compete on equal footing with any other school...an obscure religious school located in the middle of nowhere Utah won a national title, for crying out loud), and sportsmanship.

Unfortunately, college football has evolved into little more than a revenue machine for the member schools of the major conferences. It's slowly become a morally bankrupt, intellectually dishonest professional league that continues to masquerade as an amateur institution. It has lost every ounce of purity it ever had. It has literally sold its soul (long standing traditional rivalries, regional ties, historical affiliations, etc.) for billions in TV revenues.

When it comes down to it, college football has lost all its magic. The things that once made it great are gone. When and if I ever feel like watching professional football, I'll watch the NFL. College football is dead to me.

It's sad...my wife works in the BYU athletic department and I hear all kids of inside information about coaches, players, and AD personnel...the kinds of scuttlebutt that I would have been absolutely euphoric about hearing even a couple years ago. Now, I don't even care enough to pass it on.
