RE: Lol... Bronco: the most humble coach in America!
Do you know Coach Mendenhall? Do you personally know him to the point that you truly can say that he is prideful? I do know Coach Mendenhall, more than just seeing him on television or listening to his interviews. He is one of the most humble, kind, and sincere people that I have ever met on any level. Personally, he gave my wife and I a gift, that goes beyond any football field, and literally changed and helped saved my life. Bronco would be the very first person to say that his job is open for fans to criticize, and he is compensated for it, but that does not justify the personal attacks on either him or his family. Is he the first person to ever call a timeout during a big game, when a kicker was getting ready to kick a field goal or extra point? Of course not, I have seen it on both the pro and college level many times. He is not even the first that I have seen do it 2 times. Whether he was trying to ice a college age kicker during a big game, saw something that he did not like for his defense(on either side of the ball), or was trying to give his guys an extra little rest in an attempt to get more push at the line; it was a decision that he never made an excuse in owning up to. That being said, it was one call, and that is a call that he is not losing any sleep over. What else was he supposed to do? I am not fully saying that I agree with it, but I am saying that I am not qualified enough to say that my judgement in that particular situation, is better than his. He and his team had scouted that kicker and team, and obviously he felt like there was something that they knew that gave the possibility of it working. I personally would have liked to have kept at least one of the timeouts for after the kick, but I am not a coach, and do not have access to the same information that they have about the opponent or his own players. It was a judgement call, and he was either going to be called a genius if the kicker missed, or be up for criticism if he made it. That does not mean that he is arrogant or prideful, it just means that he had more information and insight than all of us. I, personally, love to see a coach that is willing to take the path least taken. All I hear about on this board, is how excited the fans are to see him calling the plays on Defense, and how he is a defensive genius. So, maybe it would be worth taking his decisions with a grain of salt, instead of acting like he is a prideful idiot for making a call that is unconventional. You can't have it both ways.
