discussing BYU and it's HCO. And to that specific point at BYU, they are correct.

But my question is, what is BYU's HC effect on the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints? Take a step back, beyond just the years at BYU and ask: do enhanced, beyond the commandment rule enforcement at the Church's school have an effect on it's members and their communities?

I would argue that they do. Granted, I am a non-Utah, never attended BYU besides EFY, active LDS. But I see BYU's HC in the lives of church members and how they interact with each other. From grooming standards, to beverages allowed at church functions (or even social get togethers), to what members deem as appropriate and what is not. BYU's HC does continue to be seen as "the correct standard" after it's students leave.

The rationale is: BYU is the Church's school. It is led and directed by the Lord's anointed. If BYU sets this standard, that must be the Lord's will. If the Lord wants his BYU students to live like that, then we should live like that outside of BYU too.

So, my point is that the HCO does have a big effect on the Lord's church and if I think the HCO is missing the mark going beyond the standards of the gospel and it is filtering down (or up) to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
