remember Gene R Cook was the GA who would preach from the pulpit (specifically at local stake meetings - I don't necessarily recall him talking about that over the General Conference pulpit) that men should be clean shaven. I don't know whether he used BYU and its Honor Code as justification.

I don't fault the Honor Code or BYU for what they are. If people leave BYU thinking that the they are bound by ALL of the same rules of conduct they adhered to at BYU and that everyone in the church should abide by them as well, then that is their own failing. I think the vast majority DON'T expect that of others. I'm sure there are some that do and they should be reminded that the Honor Code itself only applies to BYU students WHILE they are enrolled at BYU.
