Bad Answer
If BYU dropped its sports programs the visibility to BYU and the church would diminish greatly.
I know you stated we are not Ivy league but we are no where close to Ivy league.
Having good athletic programs does enhance the college experience. Plus, it helps the alumni feel like they are part of the school. No one would visit BYU for a chess match or scripture chase olympics.
Talk of eliminating sports at BYU is complete NON-SENSE.
