Equally ironic is the attitude attending us BYU fans that somehow our successes on the football field, the foundation of which was built during a time when the honor code was not fully enforced, and that is associated with the Church, somehow places us on higher ground.

Sports are a diversion. They're fun. Too bad we're struggling this year. These things are cyclical (see Ute, Majerus; Cougar, Reid). But this attitude that Utah fans have some overarching responsibility to suport BYU sports is ludicrous. Let them be fans. Like we're fans. From what I can tell, Manti Te'o's faithful attitude in South Bend is doing more "representing the Church" than the dysfunction that surrounds our program in Provo right now (link below). And ND is equally terrible right now. But that's okay. Because football is just a game. A game I love and think about way too much, no doubt. But a game.
