Sorry if my thoughts of, "that was an odd opening statement for a missionary to say to a congregation full of Cougar fans". I would hate to "throw up in my mouth" if that was all it took. and when I say, "I tuned him out" I was being facetious, of course I listened but the thought of him being somewhat pretentious was reoccurring in my mind.
I'm going to assume that you live in the east in the Boston area and a missionary from somewhere other than Boston starts out and says, in a very matter of fact way and not trying to be funny, "So I've been serving here for a few months and people often ask me if I'm a Red Sox fan or Celtics fan. No, I've never really liked them either team....The bishop asked me to speak about building our testimonies...." So you would just sit back and say to yourself, "hmmm interesting, I can't wait to hear his thoughts on testimonies." You are not a real fan of either team if that statement by a missionary from another area of the country started his talk like that. I'm not suggesting you lynch him but for it not to affect you AT ALL with out a second thought...just seems a little odd. I guess it's just me. Enjoy your vomit.
