Matthute has decided to descend from his U. on the hill, to enlighten us Cougar fans who live in a "bubble". Thank you, Matthute (clever name, I might add) for gracing us with your presence and knowledge.

You know, I could NOT care less if members of the LDS church (as this missionary obviously is) like BYU or not. Here's the ongoing problem... and yeah, it's a painfully obvious newsflash: BYU (BRIGHAM YOUNG UNIVERSITY), is owned by the LDS church AND named after one of the prophets of God. So, for a missionary (representing the same church which also owns BYU) to say that he never liked it (referring to BYU), in the city where the church owned school is located, is just foolish and definitely shows his age and lack of maturity. Are members of his ward going to give referrals to a missionary they now do not have any respect for?? I realize he is young and should be given a break, however, what about all the "mature" latter-day saints that say such foolish things?

Please understand that I do not have a problem that latter-day saints cheer for other great universities (the U. of Utah included). I don't even care that they don't like BYU. It is only bothersome when those same latter-day saints spew hatred or say condescending things about a school that is owned by their church. If you don't like BYU, fine...but to be LDS and then disparage a school, named after a latter-day prophet... it seems hypocrital. It's hard to imagine a member of the church confronting someone, not of our faith, and saying, "Yeah, I'm LDS and would like to share the gospel with you... but I hate Brigham Young University--you know, that crazy Mormon school that was founded by one of our Prophets!" I just can't make any sense of out of that!

Now please, also realize that I'm not saying all latter-day saints should be BYU fans...go ahead and cheer for the University of your choice-- I'm sure it's a great school! Also, I'm not saying that BYU is perfect (we all know it is far from it). But, let me again reiterate: when latter-day saints openly criticize a religious institute that was founded by one of our latter-day Prophets, and is managed today by the Prophet (and Quorum of the Twelve), it just seems wrong (IMO).

There was a time, not many decades ago, that latter-day saints used to stick together. It's bad enough that Brigham Young U. fans have to endure the hate of many, but now they deal with the hate from members of their own faith? Perhaps I'm foolish, naive or both, but these are my thoughts... thanks for reading.
