I get your point.

Would I bring it up at the pulpit? No.

Do I care in the least bit that he did? No.

Would it effect my opinion of him in anyway? No.

If everywhere he goes people are asking him about his thoughts on BYU Football (and I am sure that he is asked about it frequently) than what is the big deal in him just addressing to the entire congregation and just getting it over with.

He probably just thought people would give a little laugh and forget about it.

I don't think he had any idea that people would be so bothered by it that they would still be thinking about it the next day and even writing about it on the internet.

THIS IS SPORTS, NOT LIFE FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!

I have seen both Ute and BYU fans use talks as a way of taking a shot at the other team. Did they lose the respect or offend half the congregation?

No. People just laugh it off, because that is the spirit with which it was intended. Did you feel he was trying to offend the congregation? If so, than I would agree with you.

Yes, I think you are overreacting. You were so bothered by it you didn't listen to the rest of his talk. To me that is your fault, not his.

To me, it says more about the person who is bothered about something as insignificant as this, than it says about the person who shared their opinion.

AGAIN, would I have done it? No, probably not.

Do I think it mattered that he did. No, not at all.

I am sorry if this comes across as mean spirited or judgemental. It was not intended that way.
