The point is that it was inapproproate - period.
Don't care that a missionary feels that way, but to make that part of a talk from the pulpit is ridiculous. If I were serving on the Utah campus as a missionary, the last thing I would do is stand to profess my love for BYU and hatred for Utah. How is that remotely relevant to a missionary's calling? It's not. It's dumb.
