I never followed Ricks college athletics. I couldn't tell you one person who played there, where in Idaho it is, or even the sports that were played there. All I know is they don't play sports there anymore. Why you may ask? Because I didn't like them enough to care!

Everyone doesn't fit into liking or not liking BYU. For some people BYU is just another school far away that they have little interest in. Perhaps his wording was poor but the way you described it makes me think he may have just been disinterested in BYU athletics and therefore didn't like them.
